The Rookman of Rookley supports the Chillerton and Gatcombe Scarecrow Festival 2026 and points the way for everyone!
The festival is on from the 23rd to the 31st May 2026
Please go along and take a look at over 100 scarecrows (including a Highland Coo) and buy a piece of cake and a cup of tea in the hall and visit the unique Galleybaggers for some refreshment!

Rookley Village Association is a registered Charity and oversees, on behalf of the village residents, Rookley Village Hall and the Recreation & Sports Ground which are both in Highwood Lane on the northern edge of the village. Attracting a wide range of regular clubs, large Island wide events and private functions.

Following a recent Rookley Village Parish Council meeting they have issued the following update regarding the Rookley Village Post Office Closure.

Thankfully the Sun was shining on Rookley Village Associations annual Gardening Galore event which took place on Sunday 4th May and has been heralded by stall holders and visitors alike as a great success.
With refreshments provided by the Rookley Village Women’s Institute, a burger van, and Ice cream van, the feedback we have subsequently received has been extremely positive.
The car parking on-site always presents challenges and in this regard we wish to extend our special thanks to the ‘Wight Strollers’ team for keeping the traffic...
Initially envisaged as a thanks to our volunteers, the Rookley Village Association launched a 'Friends of the RVA' initiative during the past year, which was launched with the intention of running regular social events, starting with a regular Quiz Night which was first held in August.
The event was a resounding success and has already become a very popular and well supported event in the local community. The most recent Quiz night was a Christmas themed event which went down extremely well and was enjoyed by all.
