A Blooming Good Time

After being forced to cancel the event earlier in the year, due to waterlogged ground, Rookley Village Association were back in strength with Gardening Galore Revisited.

The wide selection of stands from nurseries, growers and suppliers of 'all things gardening' saw swift business from opening time until the last shoppers. late in the afternoon. All based on the island, the stand holders were very happy with the day and in fact many ran out of stock, with several growers having to return to their greenhouses several times to replenish.

With wall to wall sunshine and an impressive array of cakes, pastries and cookies to tempt the gardeners once their cars were filled with plants, the Village Association raised valuable funds to go towards the upkeep and running of the Village Hall and Sports Field.

In addition the nominated charity of the day was the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, who collected £503 in the car park donation buckets and a further £83 on their stall. They are delighted.

Tim Marshall, Chairman of the Rookley Village Association commented that "A successful day like this makes all the hardwork worthwhile. As well as raising much needed funds for ourselves and the Air Ambulance it is good to be able to support the local tradespeople... and to see the public enjoying themselves in the sun too".

The date for the 2017 event is 30th April with a reserve day (14th May).
